I started my blogging adventure just over 6 months ago. I was looking to make some fun, meaningful changes in my life and blogging kept coming up over and over again, so I finally gave in. I wrote that first post quickly, late at night, then reread it about 100 times. I finally convinced myself to push the “publish” button after rationalizing that I wouldn’t tell anyone I knew until I felt the blog was ready (whatever that means!) Then something amazing happened, within a few weeks I had 200 people reading my posts and followers from Australia, UK, Italy, Columbia and all over Canada and the US (the site stats page alone had the research geek in me hooked!) Needless to say, I loved it and still do. Blogging is this great combination of writing + journaling + scrapbooking + sharing.
After all that amazingness, I decide to tackle a big bucket list goal: becoming a published author.
I’m so happy to announce that it’s officially come true!
I’ve written two articles (#1 and #2) that were published in the online magazine, Elephant Journal (which a friend later, shockingly described as “Rolling Stone magazine for yogis.”) and just a few weeks ago I opened up a case of my shiny new anthology books.
The book is called Journey to Joy and it’s a collection of stories by 35 amazing women who write about finding joy in everyday life.
My chapter, is called Parenting on Purpose. In it I talk about how I was able to
overcome, move through, learn from the anxious and overwhelming experience of becoming a parent, to create more confidence, clarity and joy in my life and in my family. There was a lot of learning and growing going on while I was writing and editing and being interviewed. I’m so excited and proud to share this real, honest, imperfect story with the world.
The first thing I did was give signed copies to my biggest fans and supporters (my husband, my kids, my parents and my sister!) I’ve even sold a few books to other friends and family members. It’s a humble start, but I couldn’t be happier. The goal was never to make a million dollars, only to get published and I’m not going to lie, seeing my name in print has been pretty great!
The books are currently on sale at Eastside Yoga Studio in Windsor.
