Hey, Yogasteya Family!
It is always great to connect with each other. Meet Amy of the Wandering Pickells. She is a Yogasteya family member and an avid traveller!
When did you start practising yoga?
I had engaged in it off and on throughout the years but never saw it as a mind-body-soul practice. I would combine it with Pilates so it became more of a “workout”. But I started seriously practising yoga in 2013 after what I can only describe as my entire existence being cracked wide open. It was a stress and anxiety reliever as well as an emotional release for me during the most trying time of my life.
Why do you practice yoga?
I practice because it is part of the core of who I am. I feel at home when I’m engaged in it. Yoga brings me to my centre and takes me to the places within myself that I need to sit with, whether I am aware of it or not. I am forced to face myself.
What is your favourite style to practice?
I love experiencing them all. I really enjoy Kundalini and Restorative but the ones I always go back to are Hatha and Vinyasa.
What is your favourite pose?
I have so many favorites that I can’t pick just one! I enjoy them all, honestly. I love the challenging ones and the not-so-challenging ones. But if I had to choose, I would say that I enjoy Lizard, Cobbler’s, Wide-Legged Forward Fold, Happy Baby, Pigeon, and Tree the most ☺
What is your biggest aha moment about yourself that your yoga practice helped you realize?
That I AM. I am more than my body. I am more than my physical existence. I am everything.
Never would I have imagined that yoga would change my life. From my darkest moments emerged something so beautiful, open, peaceful, and life changing. And for that, I am so eternally grateful.
